On November 30, 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Proposed Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) and subsequent reporting requirements.
Locating Legacy Lead Pipes. Knowing where lead pipes are is critical to replacing them efficiently and equitably. Water systems are currently required to provide an initial inventory of their lead service lines by October 16, 2024. Under the proposed LCRI, all water systems would be required to regularly update their inventories, create a publicly available service line replacement plan, and identify the materials of all service lines of unknown material. The Northern Data Systems Development team is excited to introduce a new feature to help water utilities easily record, track and report on service line material. The team recently added to the Connections view, 2 new fields:
• Connection Material and Line Material both of which include options for quickly choosing the type of material.
• Lead, Bronze (copper), Plastic, and Other. This feature is available as of the 24.05.01 EDIFICE software release.
By recording service line and connection material in the Connections view you can utilize EDIFICE’s BUSA reporting tool for your EPA reporting. NDS’ EDIFICE BUSA Reporting is a powerful tool that streamlines your reporting process and enhances your data accessibility. This will provide water utilities with a solid method for fulfilling the LCRI mandate moving forward!
