Bill Entry - Net Metering or Solar Credits Transactions Set Up

Use the steps below to set up the information for calculating net metering solar credits for customers. To generate net metering or solar credits transactions, you will create a Generate Billing Type and assign it to the service connection. The Generate Billing Type allows for a negative usage and negative charges to be calculated when added to a connection. The generate Billing Type works for tabled Transaction codes. The Transaction codes must be set up as a credit to calculate as a negative amount.

Net Metering Setup Steps

During Billing Type Maintenance, create a new Billing Type called Generate and set the following fields:

1. Enter GENERATE as the Billing Type.

2. Enter NET METERING as the description.

3. Select Generate as the Type.

4. Click Save to complete your entries.

2. Create a rate table that contains the rates used for calculating net metering credits. For more information, click More.

During Rate Table Maintenance, create a new rate table and set the following fields:

1. Rate ID - Enter the ID for the rate table information.

2. Title - Enter Net Meter CRED as the table title.

3. Description - Enter Net Meter Credit as the description.

4. Rates - Enter the rates for net metering credits.

5. Click Save to save your entries.

3. Create a Transaction Code for generating solar net metering billing credits. For more information, click More.

During Transaction Code Maintenance, create a Transaction Code and set the following fields:

1. Rate Code - Enter NMC.

2. Rate Table No. - Assign the Table ID that contains the net metering rates.

3. Description - Enter NET METER CREDIT as the description.

4. Debit/Credit - Select Credit.

5. Service Code - Select the service code for electric.

6. Special Handling - Select None.

7. Calculation Type - Select Table.

8. Click Save to complete your entries.

4. Create the Billing Profile and add the net metering credit Transaction code to it. For more information, click More.

Open Billing Transaction Profile Maintenance and add the net metering credit Transaction code to an existing Billing profile or create a new Billing Profile.

1. Enter NETCRDT as the Billing Transaction Profile ID.

2. Enter the Service Code.

3. Enter NET METER CREDIT as the description.

4. Enter the Transaction code for net meter credits.

5. Click Save to complete the entries.

5. Use the Create Service Connection Wizard to create a customer service connection that contains the required net metering information. For more information, click More.

Use the Create Service Connection Wizard to build the service connection that contains the net metering credit meter or trailer, as well as, the other net metering information that is needed including the Billing Type and Billing Transaction Profile. As a step during the Create Service Connection Wizard, you can open the Create Meter (or Create Trailer) Wizard and create a net metering credit meter that will be used to track the usage and to calculate the solar credit. If you are adding a meter, you may find it handy to assign a meter ID that is the same as the customer's usage meter with the exception of 1 character. For example, if the customer's meter is 1234, then assign the credit meter as 1234S.

Notes:

EDIFICE requires 2 readings to calculate net metering credits. This means the customer must have a meter with 2 reading dials or they must have 2 meters attached to the location. If the customer has a meter with 2 dials and 2 readings, then you can set up a trailer attached to the customer's meter. Or, if the readings come from 2 meters then you can create a new meter and assign the customer's usage meter as the parent connection. See the step Create Service Connection for more information.
The instructions below are for adding a credit meter. The instructions are similar for adding a trailer, with the exception that you select Trailer as the Reference Type and use the Create Trailer wizard.

1. Open Create Service Connection Wizard.

2. Select Meter for the Reference Type.

3. Enter the net meter credit meter as the Reference ID. Then, click Wizard to open the Create Meter Wizard and complete the set up for the net meter credit meter.

4. Enter the previously defined Generate for the Billing Type ID.

5. Enter the customer's actual meter as the Parent Connection ID for the service connection. In the example below, the customer's parent meter is 16656S and the net meter credit meter is 16657S.

6. Enter a usage multiplier if needed.
Tip: You may need a usage multiplier depending on how the connection readings are coming into the system.

7. Enter NETCRDT as the Billing Transaction Profile ID.

8. Click Finish to save your entries.

9. Review your entries from the Customer Inquiry window to make sure they are entered correctly. See the example below.
