The Procedure Modifier is a suffix (usually) added to the Procedure Form Type Print Code that is required by the insurance carrier. Frequently a modifier will have a different or reduced fee associated with the procedure. The Procedure Modifier prints on third-party claim forms as the Procedure ID.
Example: If Procedure ID 99213 requires a modifier of 25, enter the Procedure Modifier as 9921325.
Notes:
You can maintain the Procedure Modifier for an individual charge during Charge Entry at the Work Window.
If you frequently use Procedure Modifiers during Charge Entry and need to track procedure related statistics and YTD totals we recommend that you use Procedure Maintenance to create a Procedure ID that includes the modifier. If there is a different fee associated with the procedure modifier that fee is tracked.
Format: up to 13 characters, assigned by the insurance carrier
