Unit of Measure Maintenance

Use Unit of Measure Maintenance to maintain information about the various units of measure (UOM) that may be used for inventory items.  Units of Measure allow inventory quantities to be more accurately maintained and provide context to quantities.  A default Each Unit of Measure is available to use as a default when a more specific UOM is not necessary.

Tips:  

• An Each unit of measure with a standard value of 1.0 must be defined.

• Opening Unit of Measure Maintenance, click More.

   

  1.  Click File Maintenance from the Menu Bar.

  2.  Click Unit Of Measure.

• Creating a New Unit of Measure, click More.

   

  To create a new record, enter the new UOM ID and click Retrieve , or press [ENTER].

  Tip:  To indicate that you are building a new Unit of Measure, New!  displays near the UOM ID.  Default entries display and the first field is highlighted to let you know you can begin entering information.

   

  Unit of Measure Maintenance Prompts Tip:  To see more information about a field, click the hyperlink for the field name.
  UOM ID	Enter a unique abbreviation for the unit of measure.  (up to 10 characters) Required Examples: EA, CS, BOX, YD, FT, or GAL
  	To update the new or changed information, click Save or press [ENTER].
  	CAUTION To avoid losing data, you must save new or changed records.
  	To view all of the existing Unit of Measures, click Search.  From the Search list you can select the record to change or delete.
  	To display an existing Unit of Measure, enter the UOM ID and click Retrieve, or press [ENTER].
  Description	Enter up to 45 characters to describe the unit of measure in more detail.  (up to 45 characters) Examples:  Each, Cases of 10, Boxes of 100, Yards, Feet, Gallons
  Standard Value	Enter the number for how many of a single "standard" item this unit represents. (numeric, decimal) Tip:  Units of measure apply the standard value against the default Each unit.  For example, a dozen UOM would have a standard value of 12 as a dozen is equivalent to 12 "each" units.

   

• Editing an Existing Unit of Measure, click More.

   

  CAUTION:  To avoid losing data, you must save new or changed records.

  1.  To display the record to be changed, enter the UOM ID and click Retrieve , or press [ENTER].
  
  Tip:  If you do not know the UOM ID, you can click Search  to see a list of unit of measures.

  2.  To position the pointer at the information that you want to change, press [TAB] or click the field using the mouse.

  3.  Enter the data changes.

  4.  To complete the edit process, click Save , or press [ENTER].
