Field Description - Deduction Exemptions

The Deduction Exemptions identify if the deduction is exempt from tax and retirement withholding calculations.  The exemptions reduce the taxable earnings for the respective withholding type.  You can identify the exemptions associated with a Deduction Code during Deduction Master Maintenance.  The following exemptions are available:

• Federal Tax Withholding

• FICA Withholding

• State Tax Withholding

• Retirement Withholding

• Federal Unemployment Tax Authority (FUTA) Withholding

• State Unemployment Tax Authority (SUTA) Withholding

Note:  If the system has accumulated Deduction Amount Totals, do not change the exemption selections until after the Period End Clear for the year.
