To open State Withholding Tax table:  

1.  Click Payroll from the Menu.

2.  Click Miscellaneous File Maintenance.

3.  Click Table FM.

4.  Click Numeric Tables.

5.  Click State Withholding Tax.

Note:  You can not create any new state tax tables.  The necessary tables are created during the software installation and updates.  Use the directions below to edit the tables with new rates.

State Code

The tax table for your facility's State Code displays.

To display the tax table maintenance window for a different state, click the State Code in the drop-down list.  (predefined)

Table ID

To specify whether you want to maintain the tax table for married, single, or couples taxpayers, click one of the following options in the drop-down list and then click Retrieve , or press [ENTER].

  • Married:  Maintain the withholding information for married taxpayers in the W/HM02 table.

  • Single:  Maintain the withholding information for single taxpayers in the W/HS02 table.

  • Couples:  Maintain the withholding information for two-income taxpayers in the W/HC02 table.

To update the changed information, click Save or press [ENTER].

CAUTION

To avoid losing data, you must save changed records.

Dependent Exemption

Enter the State Dependent Exemption amount.  (numeric 6.2)

Tax Percent

Enter the State Tax Rate.  (6.2 numeric)

Tip:  If the rate is 3.9%, enter 3.90.

Tax Calculation Example - Michigan Taxpayer:

If a single person's annual gross wage is $20,000.00...

  • Less Dependent Exemption for self & 1 child = $3,300.00 X 2 = $6,600.00

  • Taxable Income = $20,000.00 - $6,600.00 = $13,400.00

  • Annual State Tax Withholding Amount = Tax Percent 3.90% X Taxable Income $13,400.00 = $522.60

Notes:

  • To determine the withholding amount for the paycheck, divide the annual withholding amount by the number of pay periods in the year.

  • This example is meant to illustrate how the tax table fields are used.  Actual tax rates, limits, and calculations may vary from this example according to current state formulas.

Editing a Table

 

1.  To display the table to be changed, simply open State Withholding Tax Table Maintenance - Michigan.

2. Position the pointer to the information that you want to change.

3.  Enter the data changes.

4.  To complete the edit process, click Save , or press [ENTER].

Deleting a Table

 

Note:  To maintain data integrity, you can not delete any state tax tables.
