The Encounter Number is the number assigned to the patient's Encounter Form (also known as a superbill). The Encounter Number is generally entered with the charges associated with a patient's visit.
Note: Do not confuse the Encounter Number with the Number of Encounters, entered at the Charge Entry Commit Charges Area. They are separate fields with different meanings.
Tips:
The superbill/encounter feature is usually activated for your practice during installation.
The following programs control how your system prints superbills and handles Encounter Numbers:
PARAM3 Maintenance (setup during installation) contains several settings for encounters.
Charge Entry Preferences Maintenance contains settings for controlling the data entry of Encounter Numbers during Charge Entry.
INSight Encounter Form Parameter Maintenance contains the Next Encounter Number to print, among other settings for superbills.
Where-Maintained: INSight generates the Encounter Number when you print an Encounter Form using Scheduling - Print Appointment Forms or Scheduling - Batch Appointment Forms.
Where-Used:
Charge Entry Preferences Maintenance.
Preference Tips:
If you print superbills, NDS recommends that you leave the displayed Encounter Number value in place for ease of data entry.
To simplify data entry, NDS recommends that you make the Batch setting 0 - Disable, and the Work setting 2 - Edit.
