The Provider Code is the key field that identifies the information about the physician or healthcare provider. Provider Codes can be numeric or alpha-numeric.
Note: The Provider Code field for a patient and patient's charges is different from the Scheduling Provider Code. You can link the two codes together at Scheduling Provider Maintenance. It is okay to use the same code for both fields.

You can view and assign the Provider code to a patient during Patient Entry at the Demographics Window.
Charge Entry Preferences Maintenance controls the default values and how you edit the Provider Codes for the Rendering Provider and the Supervising Provider during Charge Entry.
Tip: During Charge Entry Preferences Maintenance, enter P as the preference, so Charge Entry will pull the codes for the Rendering Provider and the Supervising Provider from the Patient Entry - Provider & Referral Codes Area (or from the Patient Wizard - Referral/Physician Area).
The Charge Entry Batch Entry Window allows you to change the defaults for the Rendering Provider Code and the Supervising Provider Code, depending on the settings controlled by Charge Entry Preferences Maintenance.
The Charge Entry Location Provider Area allows you to change the Rendering Provider Code and Supervising Provider Code for the individual transactions, depending on the settings controlled by Charge Entry Preferences Maintenance.
