Customer or Location Search

Use the Customer Search to find a customer or a location if you do not know their Customer ID or Location ID.  You can search for a customer by their last name, their first name, their driver's license, location Book and Sequence, Property ID, location Street Index Name and house number, a Statement Invoice Number or by Finance Period.  Customer Search searches the Customer file and displays the customers matching your search criteria.  

Note:  The Customer Search is a separate routine from the basic Edifice Search and has different features.

  Customer Search Prompts
  Search By	To begin a customer search, select the search variable or parameter: Search By Options: Customer Last Name Driver's license Location Book and Sequence Location Property ID Location Street Name and Number Location Street Number Statement Invoice Finance Period
  Last Name	Enter the search variable or criteria: To search by the customer's name, enter at least the first three letters of the last name. (up to 20 characters) Or, enter the customer's Book and Sequence number. Or, enter the customer's Property ID. Or, enter the customer's Street Index Name and house number. Or, enter the location's Street Index Number. Or, enter the customer's statement invoice number. Tips:   To narrow the customer name search, enter all or part of the customer's first name, if applicable. (up to 18 characters) The field label changes reflecting the Search By option you selected.
  	To build the search list, click Search or press [ENTER].
  Search List Window	The Search List Window displays the customers that meet the search criteria. The fields listed below, display for each customer: Customer ID customer Name ( last name, combined with the first name) Address City State Zip Phone SSN (social security number) Note:  You can choose the fields to display in the search window.  For more information, see Advanced Search Functions.
  Selecting a customer	To select a customer from the Search List: To highlight the desired customer, click the appropriate customer. To load the customer's information, double-click.
  Search List Functions	Functions: To set focus on the Search List, press [TAB] from the Select field, or click in the Search List. To highlight the desired customer within the Search List, press the Up or Down keys. To select a highlighted customer, double-click. To sort the Search List by a specific field, click the column header.  When you select a column, all data within is sorted alphabetically.
  	To cancel the current search and clear the current search options, click Reset.
  	To rebuild the Search list to display recent file maintenance changes or to activate new Search Conditions, click Refresh. Keyboard shortcut:  [ALT + e]
  	To sort the Search list by a specific field, click the field name at the heading of the appropriate column. To change the sort sequence to ascending or descending: Click Ascending . Or, click Descending . Note:  Sorting a field causes it to become the Active Field.

   

• Switching to the Semantic Customer Search, click More.

   

  Tip:  For information about the Semantic Customer Search, see the Search topic.  The Semantic Search is available only if the appropriate parameter values are specified during installation.

  To switch to the Semantic Search:

  1. Click the following sequence:
     File from the Menu Bar; Settings; Client Options; Preferences.
     Keyboard shortcut:  [ALT] [f] [e] [c] [p].

  2. Click the Application Preferences tab.

  3. At Search Method, select Enhanced.
     
     The Search window changes from the Classic version to the Semantic version.

  4. Click OK .
