Tips for Entering the Patient Account Number

When working with patients, INSight provides several shortcuts for easily entering the Patient Account Number.  This topic describes how to enter the Account Number in three different locations:  the Account Number Area, the Shortcut Menu, and the Patient Wizard.

  To enter the Account Number in the Patient Account Number Area of the Side Panel (or the Scheduling Patient Account Area), use one of the following methods:

  • To create a new patient account leave the Account Number blank (or enter N), which launches the Patient Wizard.

  • Or, if you know the Account Number for an existing account, type it directly into the Account Number field.

  • Or, if you do not know the Account Number, click Search to see a list of patients.  You can then select an account for retrieval back into the Account Number field.
    
    Search Tips:

  • Enter a full or partial last name in the Account Number field and press [ENTER] to immediately start the Search.

  • Or, enter the patient's Date of Birth in the Account Number field and press [ENTER] to immediately start the Search.
    Note:  You must enter the date as mm/dd/yy; slashes are required to distinguish the number from a Social Security Number.  Include only two digits for the year.
     

  • Or, to recall a patient by Social Security Number, enter a Social Security Number (omitting dashes) in the Account Number field.

  • Or, to recall a patient by a Ticket Number associated with the patient account, enter the Ticket Number by entering Txxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx is the actual Ticket Number - Leading zeros not required).

  • Or, to recall a patient by an Encounter Number for a superbill associated with the patient account, enter the Encounter Number by entering Exxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx is the actual Encounter Number - Leading zeros not required).

• Shortcut Menu, click More.
   

   

  To quickly select a patient from the Window Level Shortcut Menu, which lists the last ten accounts used:

  1. Right-click any blank area in the Side Panel or a Patient Entry window.

  2. Click an Account Number in the list.

• Patient Wizard, click More.

   

  To enter the Account Number in the Patient Wizard - Choose Patient Area, use one of the following methods:

  • New Patient Methods:

  • Manually enter an Account Number that does not already exist.

  • Or, click the Assign Number button to automatically assign the next available Account Number.

  • Or, enter N in the Account Number field to automatically assign the next available Account Number.
     

  • Edit Patient Methods:

  • Manually enter an existing Account Number.

  • Or, If you do not know the Account Number, click Search to see a list of patients.  You can then select an account for retrieval back into the Account Number field.

  • Or, enter a full or partial last name in the Account Number field and press [ENTER] to immediately start the Search.

  • Or, enter the Account Number in the Patient Reference Panel before launching the Patient Wizard.

Note:  If you enter an Account Access Password for the Patient, you will see the following prompt whenever you enter the Account Number.  Enter the password and click OK:
