Device Descriptions

EDIFICE offers a simple way to label the devices used by your utility with descriptions for foolproof identification.  You can use descriptions to identify special types of meters such as a sewer deduct meter used for irrigation or for a meter or trailer that's set up for net metering credits.  Descriptions can be also handy if you want ot identify the different types of backflow devices you have.  When added to a device, the customized description will replace the generic Meter, Trailer, Backflow or Component text wherever the device is displayed.  Your devices will become easily recognizable in the connections, work orders, service management, testing management, change out connections and BUSA reporting views.  Descriptions are available for all types of devices and device type descriptions can be reported as well.

Device Description Setup Overview

Here's how to create and use custom descriptions for devices.

Assign Device Types to Devices

Use the connections view to add a device description to a device.  The example below explains how to add a device description to a meter.  You can add descriptions to trailers, backflow and components in the same manner.

Tip:  You can also use Meter Maintenance, Trailer Maintenance, Backflow Maintenance or another component maintenance to add the device type description to the device.

1.  From the Inquiry load the account.

2.  Open the connections view by clicking View and then Connections.

3.  Click Edit that's next to the device name to open the device maintenance screen.

4.  At the Type field, enter the device type ID or click Search to find it.

5.  Click Save to save your work and then, close the screen.

6.  Back at the Inquiry screen click Save to complete the changes to the connection.

In the connection area you will see that the name of the meter has changed as shown below as well as the name on the meter tab.
